As seen in the lesson about sequencing, Grade One students read the book If You Give a Mouse a Cookie by Laura Numeroff and did the sequencing of events with this book. As an extension activity to this lesson, students each created a page for the class book, If You Give a Mouse a Cookie by Class 101 & 102.
Through the process of creating a class book, students were exposed to the process of writing, sharing ideas and working as a team. This type of activity also promote creativity and confidence in young writers and readers. Students were given a cut-out of a mouse and had to fill in the sentence, “If you give a mouse _________________, he’ll want ___________________ to go with it.
Once the book was finished, it was laminated and bound, and each student had a chance to bring it home and read it to their family. Below are pictures of the finished class book!
