My experience with Google Classroom
Google Classroom is a great tool to have parents stay connected with what is happening in their child’s classroom and education. Teachers can post reminders, assignments, and grades for both parents and students to access. I have seen many teachers use this tool in such an effective way. I had the privilege of using Google Classroom during my third field experience. Google Classroom was the platform I used to share with students videos that are shown in class or to remind students about certain events coming up. In addition, every week my CT and I used Google Classroom to post a copy of the weekly homework slip. Although students were given copies to glue in their agenda, we still posted it on Google Classroom for parents to access. During my field experience, we also used Google Slides where students were taught how to create their own Google Slides Presentation. Since these assignments are done through the Google Classroom forum, teachers are able to access each student’s presentation to add comments or make changes. In addition, we also had students complete a small formative assessment for their IB Aqua Adventure unit through Google Forms. Overall, it has been a great experience learning to use the Google platform in the classroom.
Here are some examples of how I used Google Classroom to communicate with students and parents:
