One way the Grade One students were preparing for Earth Day was by learning about bees and why they are important to the environment.
This unit includes the following lessons:
- Reading a book about bees and wasps- Students completed a journal entry and drew a picture about what they had learned.
2. Buzz Buzz Bumblebee Poem – Students read the poem Buzz Buzz Bumblebee and completed the complementary activity worksheet.

5. Special Guest – A bee keeper!
Due to the pandemic, our special guest did his presentation via Zoom. This bee keeper, explained to students what he does as a bee keeper. He also showed the students all his equipment and what unhatched eggs look like. Since the bee keeper is a friend of mine, I also brought in a jar of his honey for the students to try! Students were so excited to see everything he showed and to ask him questions. Here are some pictures of this day:
